Organic Apple Cider Donuts

October would not be complete without the sights and smells of organic apple cider and apple cider donuts!  Every October we take our daughters to the local pumpkin farm, it has become a tradition to visit before Halloween.  The pumpkin farm has all kinds of animals, handmade statues made out of straw, a huge store filled with all kinds of trinkets and decorations, and of course they have a bakery that serves thousands and thousands of apple cider donuts and apple cider.  We love watching our daughters faces as they go from one scene to the next and to each different animals home.  Their joy is priceless and makes us feel like kids again!

As you know we eat an all organic diet that consists of whole organic homemade foods.  We limit our intake of organic processed foods.  If we do purchase organic processed foods, it must have 5 ingredients or less.  So, you probably guessed that we didn’t indulge on the farms apple cider donuts and apple cider.  Instead, our daughters requested that we make our own homemade organic donuts.  We couldn’t say no to them, so today, we made organic apple cider donuts.  They are sooooo delicious!!!  We just know that you will give up the store bought, fried apple cider donuts and start making your own.

Our home smelled absolutely amazing from simmering the apple cider and clove.  It smelled like we were sitting outside in the middle of our apple trees!

Our recipe is perfect for letting your little ones help out in the kitchen, our daughters had so much fun making the donuts!

Organic Apple Cider Donuts
The most delicious baked organic donut you will ever taste!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 C Organic Apple Cider
  • 2 C Organic All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp Organic Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Organic Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Pink Himalayan Salt
  • 1 Organic Free-Range Egg
  • 1 tsp Organic Vanilla Extract
  • 2/3 C Organic Cane Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Organic Unsalted Butter; melted

    For the Topping:
  • 1/2 C Organic Cane Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Organic Ground Cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp Organic Unsalted Butter; melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350* F Position rack to the middle of your oven
  2. Simmer apple cider in a small saucepan for 15 minutes
  3. Remove from heat and add one drop of clove essential oil; place in refrigerator to cool
  4. In a large bowl; whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Set aside
  5. In a medium bowl; combine the egg, melted butter, and brown sugar. Whisk until smooth.
  6. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients; whisk until just combined, do not overmix
  7. Pour batter into donut pan. Bake for 9-12 minutes; until toothpick comes out clean.

For the Topping:

  1. In a small bowl; melt butter
  2. In another small bowl; combine sugar and cinnamon
  3. Lightly dip the donuts into the butter, then coat with cinnamon and sugar mixture
  4. Enjoy!
