Even though it is wintertime, our family still enjoys our organic ‘nice-cream’, smoothies, and, smoothie bowls! Our daughters would eat one every single day if they could, all three are their favorite desserts! Of course, we are happy that they choose healthy desserts versus not so healthy desserts.
We wanted to share with you one of our favorite organic smoothie bowl recipes! We have combined our favorite fruits with our favorite nuts and of course our favorite superfoods, organic goji berries/wolfberries, and organic chia seeds!
The health benefits of goji berry include the control of diabetes, the lowering of cholesterol, free radical scavenging, cardiovascular protection, possible cancer control, protection of brain cells, protection of the liver and skin protection from UV radiation. It also helps in improving eyesight, general well-being and strengthening the immune system.
Organic Goji, or wolfberry, is used in traditional Chinese medicine and in food preparation in China. The juice of wolfberries and the berries themselves are sold for the various health benefits that it offers. Wolfberry is actually divided into two sub-species, which are known as Lycium barbarum and Lycium chinense, both belonging to the Solanaceae family. Wolfberry is considered to be native to China and it also grows in the warmer regions around the world, including Australia, North America, the Mediterranean basin, Central Asia, and Southwest Asia. China is the biggest exporter of Wolfberry in the world.
Our favorite organic wolfberries are part of our Young Living Essential Oil line. They are certified organic, fresh, and so delicious! The legendary Ningxia wolfberry has long been sought after for its rich nutritional content. With documented use dating back to the Ming Dynasty, it is one of the earliest known “superfruits” utilized in ancient Chinese health practices. Organically cultivated and dried in remote regions of China, the wolfberry’s revered and unparalleled nutritional profile includes polyphenols, polysaccharides, and a distinctive ratio of trace nutrients. Certified USDA organic wolfberries fortify and replenish, making them a perfect healthful snack.
Organic chia seeds impart many health benefits, some of which include controlling diabetes, lowering cholesterol levels, improving the digestive system, boosting heart health, controlling hypertension, and they even contain anti-inflammatory properties.
Chia seeds come from the chia plant, which is native to Mexico and Guatemala. The scientific names of the plant are salvia hispanica and salvia columbariae. They both belong to the mint family (Lamiaceae). Chia seeds look similar to sesame seeds. They are very small and dark. This plant has been known to humans for a very long time. The chia plant had been cultivated by the Aztecs, Mayans, Incans and other tribes for a very long time. It was a staple food for them and historians considered it an important plant and food source for Native Americans. With the fall of the Aztecs and the general decline in the native population in the North American region, the use of chia seeds also declined.
