raw organic honey

Honey is a very common natural sweetener that many of us already use.  If you have chosen to do away with processed foods, you most likely have made honey your top choice for a natural sweetener.

When choosing honey as your natural sweetener, it is important to know the different kinds of honey that are available.  Commercial honey sold in stores is heated to high temperatures and pasteurized, which removes most of the beneficial enzymes, antioxidants and other nutrients that are heat-sensitive.  Commercial honey has also had most of the pollen removed.  Bee pollen is one of the most nutritionally-complete foods available due to its high amino acid and antioxidant content.

Raw honey on the other hand, is very beneficial to your health!  Raw honey is unheated, unprocessed and unpasteurized; leaving it’s nutrients intact.  Raw honey contains bee pollen, has a high content of antimicrobial agents, and is full of antioxidants.  Since raw honey is not processed, you will notice that it is solid in form and is cloudy in color.

Our favorite brand of Organic Raw Honey comes from Y.S. Organic Bee Farm.  You can purchase it from Vitacost.com on their subscribe and save program

Another type of honey that we use in our household is Raw Organic Manuka honey.  Manuka honey is a common natural healing agent that has been used for centuries as a topical antibiotic on wounds and acne.  We exclusively use manuka honey for sore throats, colds, and other common ailments due to these properties.  Our favorite brand of raw manuka honey is from Wedderspoon Organics, you can also purchase this from Vitacost.com
