Pass The Ghee Please! (Amazing Organic Liquid Gold Recipe)

organic ghee recipe

Pass the Ghee (Organic Liquid Gold) please! Butter may be one of the most beloved foods on the planet, but we have an even more delicious alternative; Organic Ghee! We have a secret ingredient that will knock your socks off!

Ghee is a clarified type of butter, meaning that it is butter that has been simmered into a concentrate and the residue has been removed. What remains is basically a pure combination of fats, without any milk residue, which means that it does not need to be refrigerated. Ghee can last for months, or even years, without refrigeration, which made it very popular throughout history, before modern times and refrigeration.

Ghee originated in India, but is known in dozens of countries, primarily Asia. Ghee has a rather unique and flavorful taste and aroma that is different from butter, but it can be used in almost all of the same ways. It is known best as ‘Organic Liquid Gold’!

Packed With Nutrition

If ghee is eaten in moderation, it can provide your body with higher concentrations of essential nutrients. Ghee has a much more intense flavor and more nutrients than butter. A little goes a long way!

Ghee may be composed primarily of fats, but it also contains significant levels of vitamin A, vitamin E, and vitamin D. Although many people think of fats as unhealthy elements of your diet, the body also needs fat to function. Omega-3s (monounsaturated fats) are healthy forms of fat that can be found in ghee, in addition to other  fatty acids like conjugated linoleic acid and butyric acid, both of which have positive health benefits in the body.

Ghee is more expensive to purchase than regular organic butter, but it is so simple to make!

Clean your counter-tops and prepare your work station with the following tools:

  • A medium size saucepan, a fine wire mesh strainer, cheesecloth, a spoon, a 16-ounce or larger measuring cup, a clean jar for storage.

Ingredients
Servings:
Instructions
  1. Cut your butter up into small pieces.
  2. In a medium sauce pan on medium heat; melt the butter.
  3. Once melted; turn your heat down to a simmer.
  4. Cook for approximately 10-15 minutes. (During this time, the butter will go through several stages. It will foam, then bubble, then seem to almost stop bubbling and then foam again. When the second foam occurs, the ghee is done. At this point, the melted butter should be bright gold in color and there should be reddish brown pieces of milk solids at the bottom of the pan.)
  5. Let cool slightly, approximately 2-3 minutes and pour into a wire meshed strainer lined with several layers of cheesecloth with a a large measuring glass placed under it. The small bits of milk protein will be discarded.
  6. Pour your ghee that was collected into a glass jar and secure it with a lid. Ghee does not need to be refrigerated (will last approximately 1 month), but will last much longer if it is.
  7. Use as a cooking oil for stir-frys, to top sweet potatoes, or melted on steamed/roasted vegetables. Ghee is full of intense flavor, so use sparingly.
  8. Enjoy!
