Clean, fresh, and silky skin is sought out by everyone! If you are looking for alternatives to the toxic talcum powder that is on the market, we have the perfect DIY budget-friendly product; Organic Lavender Body Powder!
What is Talcum Powder (According to the American Cancer Society)?
Talcum powder is made from talc, a mineral made up mainly of the elements magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. As a powder, it absorbs moisture well and helps cut down on friction, making it useful for keeping skin dry and helping to prevent rashes. It is widely used in cosmetic products such as baby powder and adult body and facial powders, as well as in a number of other consumer products.
In its natural form, some talc contains asbestos, a substance known to cause cancers in and around the lungs when inhaled (see Asbestos). All talcum products used in homes in the United States have been asbestos-free since the 1970s.
Possible Link to Cancer:
It has been suggested that talcum powder might cause cancer in the ovaries if the powder particles (applied to the genital area or on sanitary napkins, diaphragms, or condoms) were to travel through the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes to the ovary.
Many case-control studies have found a small increase in risk.
Who needs to worry about whether a product is cancer causing when you have a pure, healthy, and clean DIY alternative! Our Lavender Body Powder is talc free, chemical free, and budget-friendly!
For this recipe, we have chosen to use Organic Arrowroot Powder and Bentonite Clay (you can find both of these products through our Healthy Living Store). Both products absorb well and are completely toxin-free and pure.
We love using Lavender Essential Oil in our body powder because it is versatile for both men, women, and children.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a scent that’s a wonderful blend of fresh, floral, clean, and calm. It’s this dynamic aroma that has made the flower a classic for perfumes, soaps, fresheners, and beauty products. As one of our most popular products, Lavender oil is a great beginner oil and a must for every home.
Lavender essential oil isn’t just a favorite because of its classic scent—it’s also highly versatile. From skin care products to relaxing routines, this oil can infuse many areas of your life.
There are a ton of other uses for Lavender Essential Oil!
- Treat yourself to this well-loved aroma by adding a few drops of oil to lotions, shampoos, and skin care products.
- Create a spa-like retreat by combining 1 cup Epsom salt and 4 drops oil and adding to a hot bath.
- Make a basic homemade body scrub with coconut oil, sugar, and Lavender essential oil.
